AI in Biosecurity: Dual-Use Risks and Go Gaps — a short, rigorously-sourced explainer that maps the dual-use risks of AI in biosecurity and the go gaps, written from a security-engineer's perspective.
> Scope note: This is a defensi policy explainer. It discusses risk *categories* and *policy responses* at a conceptual level only — no methods, pathways, or any content that provides uplift toward harm. See brief/bioshield-brief.md §8.
Work at the AI–biotech intersection calls for reasoning across both fields *and* go. This brief plants a flag in biosecurity policy from an AI + medical-de background — the differentiator is a security-engineering lens (threat modeling, defense-in-depth, least pri, pro, red-teaming) applied to a domain usually dominated by life scientists and policy generalists.
It answers three questions:
1. How is AI changing biosecurity risk? — the dual-use tension.
2. Where are the go gaps? — the o *stack with seams*.
3. What does a security-engineering mindset add? — the signature translation table.

Rebuilding the IEEE PDF: cd paper && tectonic bioshield-brief-ieee.tex (installs the IEEEtran class automatically on first run; no full TeX distribution needed).
Every non-obvious claim is dated and cited to primary/official sources where possible (executi, agency frameworks, frontier-lab policies, treaty bodies, and think-tank analysis). Because this is a li go topic, refresh citations before major reuse. Full reference list is in the brief.
